Our second to last day in Europe today, and we spent it exploring the old town of Salamanca.

We actually slept in this morning, having stayed up to watch the yachting and also gaining an hour crossing the border yesterday. I must say my energy levels have been pretty low today, and we have another racing (or two) tonight.

So back to today, firstly we had a guided tour around the city and then we had the afternoon to ourselves. This is a University town and one of the oldest, along with Oxford, set up in the 15th century.

Well it is now Saturday the 21st of Sept and we are currently in our hotel, close to the Madrid Airport, where we will catch a flight to Boston tomorrow. The end of a spectacular two months in Europe, that began on the 9th of July in Venice, and now seems an age away, and ended today with a four hour walk around Toledo and then a us trip to Madrid this afternoon.

But lets, back up the truck and little and tell you about yesterday. The program was, that we leave Salamanca at 9-00am and visit the little town of
Avila,Spain , you can click on the link to see what it looks like. The problem was the an elderly lady on the tour ended up in hospital for the morning and we all waited around for her. Net result is that we had a 1 hr lunch break at Avila on the trip to Toledo. We arrived in Toledo at 4-00pm yesterday afternoon and had a two hour guided tour around the town and then back to the hotel for the final dinner together.

| Ruth, Rosie and Marg. Lovely people :-) |
Because we effectively missed yesterday, we decided, along with a few others to stay in Toledo for the day today and catch a Mini bus to Madrid later in the afternoon. I am glad we did because Toledo was another great place to visit. We said our goodbyes to the tour group last night and this morning and have been on our own today.
We have really enjoyed the tour and the people on it. The tour guide had some limitations, which tended to effect the feel of the trip a little, but overall it was a great experience and we have seen and experience so much, and really enjoyed ourselves.

Tomorrow it is off to the States, with the first stop Boston. We have a couple of days by ourselves and then join another bus tour for a week. It will be interesting to have a comparison. Really looking forward to catching up with family and friends in California, but that is a few weeks away yet with lots more to see in between, and the America's Cup still to be won. Hopefully we can do it tonight, or they may be waiting for us to step foot in the country !!
