First Bull fighting Ring in Spain
|
Bull Statue outside Ring
Left Granada this morning, the 6th Sept, and headed for Seville, which is further south and much closer to the Mediterranean coast. We eventually arrived at our destination at around 6-00pm having spent about 3 hrs in the ancient town of Ronda.

Apart from the historical aspects of the town, which date back to the neolithic age, one of the the interesting aspects of the place is that it is the home of bull fighting, and is the home of the first Bull fighting stadium in Spain, built in the early 18th century. We where unable to get into the Bull ring, because they are having a bull fight here shortly and the place was close, which was a bit disappointing. I did however take a few pictures from the outside and cheated a bit by photographing a couple of posters to give you an idea of the place, see photos...

The town celebrating a Festival

Children Dressed for the Party
So apart from the bull fighting, the town was in the middle of a festival and so they were celebrating with many people dressed up in traditional costumes, the town with lots of "bunting"up and music been played etc.. It created a great atmosphere.

Amazing bridge over gouge

Old town square
The actual town is also unique, and goes back thousands of years. The main feature of the town is a huge stone bridge, completed at the end of the 18th century, that spans a very deep gouge. Quite remarkable. We had a good walk around the town and then got back on the bus for the final leg of the trip to Seville.
The Seville hotel that we are staying in may require a blog of it's own but I will leave that for another day ...
