Kavala and the town of Philippi

Arriving in Kavala
Arrived in Kavala, Greece at 9-00 this morning ready for our tour of Philippi and the old port town of Kavala. This is the port that Paul arrived at and then made his way inland, approx 12 km to the ancient town of Philippi. It was at Philippi that he established the first Christian community in Europe.

It was in Philippi where he was put on trial and imprisoned for preaching the gospel, and along with Silas while they were singing in prison there was an earthquake, and they escaped. Lydia was converted and baptised here and we saw all the places where it is believed these events happened. Amazing to see, and walk on, old Roman roads that are over 2,100 years old.

Headed back to Kavala and had a good look around the old fort town before returning to the ship.

We set sail for Istanbul at 4-00pm this afternoon, and arrive there at 3-00pm tomorrow the 24th July.
